A large tree on the Battle Abbey estate which was blown down
The writing on the back os this photo indicates that it is from the Late 1920s" - A large tree on the Battle Abbey
estate which was blown down in last nights gale carrying with it the telephone wires. Estate workmen seen at
work clearing the road, the traffic being held up for several hours
Battle Abbey on fire
The story of this photo
taken in 1931 is that my
grandad Percy nearly did
not get the shots at all
because he had to go back
home for his false teeth - its
a good job he only lived
round the corner. He had
the photos developed onto
red paper to make them
look like this - there was no
photoshop in those days.
The story continues that he
was asked by a national
newspaper to sell the
negatives but he refused.
